Identification Family
represented by just two unmistakeable species in
Victoria. Both characteristically inhabit still water
pools along the edge of fast flowing streams. These
damselflies perch with wings held flat and look more
like dragonflies, with robust bodies, rather than the
thin-bodies that other damselflies have.
The nearest confusion species are the
'blue' dragonflies of Victoria: Orthetrum
caledonicum, Austrothemis
nigrescens and Crocothemis
nigrifrons. None of these species however are
noted for occurring on rocks in fast flowing rivers.
