Crocothemis nigrifrons - Black-headed Skimmer


Male identification: Bright blue flattened abdomen. Black eyes and black thorax. Reddish brown pterostigma

Female identification: Brown flattened abdomen with a thick dark mid-dorsal line along the length of the abdomen. Brown thorax and eyes.


Similar species: Most similar to O. caledonicum which differs by having a distinctive black tip to the tail (male) or a pair of thick black stripes down each side of the abdomen (female).


Behaviour: No information at present


Distribution: Recorded in lowland areas in east Gippsland and northeast Victoria. Likely to be close to the edge of its range in Victoria
