Apocordulia macrops - Nighthawk


Male identification: A small pale brown dragonfly with dark narrow rings around the base of each segment and a thick dark mid-dorsal line down the abdomen. Thorax with a pale central stripe. Wings clear with pale brown pterostigma. Orange leading veins to both wings.


Female identification: Appears similarly marked to male but with clubbed tail.

Similar species: Most similar to A. refracta which is much darker in colour and lacks dark rings around the abdomen.


Behaviour: No information at present


Distribution: Recorded along the Kiewa River in northern Victoria at altitudes less than 400m.
