Killer whales travel back and
forth along the south east coast of Australia
continually throughout the year, though they are
far more abundant off Tasmania and further south.
Between Melbourne and Merimbula (NSW), they are
reported a dozen times a year and the same
individuals have been seen in both
locations.
Killer Whales are unmistakeable.
Males have a massive tall dorsal fin and they all
share striking black and white patterning and a
menacing white eye patch. They are frequently seen
in Port Phillip Bay and off Seal Rocks (Vic)
between June and July and then more commonly on
the east coast between October and December. They
have been seen predating ocean sunfish off Eden,
plus seals and sharks off the Victorian coastline.
