Eleven encounters with 324 birds on the return leg (day 7) in water less than 200m deep near the edge of the continental shelf. One flock (red dot) comprised over 250 birds.

This species breeds in the northwest Pacific off Japan, Korea and China between February and October. Birds found off NW Australia are probably post-breeding birds spending the boreal winter in the southern hemisphere.
