AES was commissioned to produce
approval documents and management plans for
monitoring and mitigation of impacts on whales and
dolphins. The project took three months to
implement and involved up to six staff and
contractors from overseas. Baseline aerial surveys
were combined with the first test of Passive
Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) equipment (underwater
detection of whales from their vocalisations) from
onboard a seismic contracting vessel.
